2025 Practice Times

NSJ Calendar

Parent Meeting: 

  • Monday 6/2 – Dive Team Parents Meeting @ 5 PM (between the first and second practice)

Black & Blue Meet: 

  • Thursday 6/19 – This practice dive meet will be held during morning practice.

TeamSnap:

  • During the dive season TeamSnap will be the primary source for communicating all information related to practice, dive meets, and dive activities.

GroupMe:

  • During the dive season we will use the messaging app GroupMe.  This will ensure everyone receives instant updates regarding dive meets, practice times, and any weather related changes.

After School Practice (starting Wednesday, May 28th):

  • 4 – 5 PM – Middle / High School Divers
  • 5 – 6 PM – Elementary School Divers

Divers of all ages participating on Swim Team may join either dive practice.

Morning Practice (starts the day after HCPSS ends):*

  • 8:30 – 9:30 AM – 10 and under
  • 9:30 – 10:30 AM – 11 and up

*NOTE:

    • Contingent on HCPSS calendar.
    • We practice every morning, even on days we have dive meets.
    • Dive sheets will be completed during practices.
    • Make-up meets will be communicated and any changes will be reflected on the NSJ website and calendar.

Evening Practice (starts the week after HCPSS lets out):*

  • 6 – 7 PM – Monday / Wednesday after swim team practice – All ages
    • Monday, June 23rd and Wednesday, June 25th
    • Monday, June 30th and Wednesday, July 2nd
    • Wednesday, July 9th
    • Monday, July 14th

*NOTE:

    • Evening practices are intended for divers who cannot make morning practice due to camp or other conflicts.
    • It is NOT intended for divers to “double up” on practices.
    • We have limited coach availability to cover a full evening practice.

Championship Practice (starts Tuesday, July 15th):*

  • Tuesday 7/15: 9 – 10:30 AM
  • Wednesday 7/16:  9 – 10:30 AM
  • Thursday 7/17:  9 – 10:30 AM
  • Friday 7/18:  9 – 10:30 AM

*Note:

    • Starting on July 15th, only those divers participating in Championships will attend practice.
    • One morning practice will be held at the club hosting Championships. Day and time TBD.

Divers Role:

  • Be open minded to learning new dives!
  • Cheer on and encourage other divers!
  • Do your best and have fun!
  • Practice safe behavior when on the pool deck, diving stands, and diving boards.
  • Behave like the talented and amazing athletes you are!:
    • Horseplay and disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated.
    • Coaches will discuss any behaviors with the diver.
    • Any recurrent behaviors will be discussed with the parents.

Parents’ Role:

  • Please be a supportive parent!
  • If you have suggestions, please discuss them with the coach
  • Please do not coach or suggest coaching strategies during the practice.
  • Much of diving is muscle memory. With the younger divers we strive to achieve a solid foundation with each dive category before we build on the core dives.
  • Coaches are available to discuss any strategies upon completion of the practice session.
  • Please be encouraging!

Skill Progression:

  • Divers will learn the sport of diving through skill progression.
  • We build foundational skills first and progress from there.
  • When a coach feels that a diver is ready to move on to the next skill progression, they will be coached through the progression.
  • If a coach feels the diver needs more work at their current level, they will remain at the current level until skill and/or commitment progress.
  • Coaches are available after practice to discuss any ideas you may have about your diver.

Things to Note:

  • The diving boards are fairly new so your diver may have chafing on their feet. We allow socks during practice.
  • If you need to attend a different practice, please advise either the Dive Director or a Coach.
  • We try our best to accommodate everyone’s requests.
  • We are happy to have siblings practice at the same time.
  • We practice in light rain / mist.
  • Cancellations will be communicated through TeamSnap and GroupMe.
  • We realize many of our divers participate in other activities. Please let us know so we can accommodate your diver for practices or a dive meets.
  • We offer private dive lessons with the coaches.  Please refer to the Dive Lesson page.
